Frequently Asked Questions

  • There are 4 things that set this game apart from any other Harry Potter trivia or even any other trivia game.

    1. This game is based on the books-only. Every other game produced by the trademark owners is based on the movies. They contain vague questions that can contradict the written text and focus too often on actors, directors and other things not related to the Harry Potter story.

    2. Each answer has a reference to the book and chapter where the text can be found. This allows players to have confidence in the answer, and if needed, the opportunity to look it up.

    3. Each question is phrased to have multiple answers! You can read more about that in the FAQ Why does each question have multiple answers?

    4. Progressing levels of difficulty sets this game apart from any other trivia game. Playing Trivial Pursuit type games can lack in competitiveness and flow. The difficulty is completely arbitrary and varies player to player. UHPT will allow those who are well versed to tackle questions appropriate for their knowledge, while setting up those who are more Muggle than witch to stay in their lane.

  • Yes! There are 7 levels, 1 being the easiest, 7 the hardest.

Based on your knowledge and answering questions correctly, skilled players will spend time on the higher levels, while beginners stay in the lower levels.

This allows for everyone playing to have a chance each round to compete!

  • Each question is intentionally designed to allow for critical thinking!

Trivia is often hit or miss - either you know the answer or you don’t. Occasionally you hit the sweet spot, where you’re not sure of the answer, you think about it, and bam! You arrive at the right answer. Questions in UHPT will allow for that trivia sweet spot as often as possible!

The best questions are designed to cross multiple books and have each player revisit the best parts of the Harry Potter story. The multiple answers also allows for more styles of play where each player can interact and participate with each card.

  • The commentary guide is a collection of fun questions, thoughts and friendly debates around Harry Potter topics.

You can simply pick up the commentary guide and start reading and discussing.

In addition, as you play the game, some cards have a footnote, which you can reference in the commentary guide and read with your group. Just another way to keep the Harry Potter fun rolling!

  • No! Truly, any level of Harry Potter knowledge can play this game. Of course the progressing levels of difficulty allow for all to patriciate, but even a squib can participate in some of the higher level questions.

For example, most players likely cannot name 11 types of racing brooms. But most are familiar with Harry’s personal brooms: the Nimbus 2000 and the Firebolt! And if you remember that, then you might remember Malfoy’s upgraded Nimbus 2001! And being able to provide those answers alone can lead to points and winning in many of the playing styles for this game.

The point of UHPT is not to know every answer to every question. I don’t want to say it’s impossible for a human being to get every question right… but it might be. But the game is designed to challenge ALL levels of Harry Potter knowledge, including superfans with a photographic memory. And some questions are just for them.
